New Shop Windows

If you are a regular to my shop, you know that I change my window displays each and every month. Today I am sharing my vintage sewing window and Easter window with you. I just love the paper mache' eggs in the suitcase. They are made in Germany. From the time I put them in, I have sold three of them already. SO CUTE! I have also added some funky Easter bonnets and an old Gund bunny. I recently came across some vintage child's sewing machines. The dark blue one I have never seen before. Couldn't pass it up. At the bottom front I have a early 1900's adjustable sewing pattern made of heavy cardboard along with the original book. This is for making Victorian clothing. So old but so neat! Both the Featherweight and Aqua Singer machines have both been refurbished at the sewing doctor and work great. I own a Featherweight myself and I love it. I hear quilters love these too. If you are looking for vintage fabrics and patterns, I have them. Included are 2 rolls of Chintz fabric that are large enough to do several projects.

Cottage style

Many new items brought to the shop today. The windows both have a new look too. Here is a peek of some of the items I brought in. Everyone loves Cottage Style, right? I found an old tin pie cupboard, a small table-top one. Several new metal trays. You can hand these on your walls as decor or use them as they were intended. New fabric and an aqua sewing machine, some REALLY COOL retro bar stools, an unusual old ash tray with a place for matches, 2 child's sewing machines, a Beatles booklet and some paper mache' easter eggs made in Germany are just a few things I have added to the shop. Not all of these treasures are in this set of pictures so stop in and take a look. I will be there this weekend. This super nice couple decided to take home the Old Crow. Hope you enjoy him!

Weekend Inspiration DIY Projects

What do you think of when you see a thermos? Hot soup, warm beverages, and of course a great tailgating accessory. A customer came into the store today and shared an idea on what to use them for other than the common uses.

How about a vase? He told me of an arrangement he did for his 50's themed guest bathroom and how awesome it turned out. He used plastic flowers, but you could also use real ones. He didn't use any paint at all on the canister portion of it, suggesting you could to hide any visible rust.

Perhaps the next time you deliver flowers to someone or need to come up with a housewarming gift, look for a thermos and had a little twist to the arrangement.

Yummy Christmas Goodies

I thought I would share two of my favorite Christmas recipes with you. I usually double the recipe for the cookies and usually end up making them twice. They are great for sharing. The banana bread is THE BEST! So moist. You can even add some small chocolate chips to a couple of them for something different. YUM ! This recipe makes 4 large loafs or try some smaller ones and give them to your friends.

It's Black Friday. The one day that most people wait for all year. Have you enjoyed all the commercials they aired all week in prep for this day? Personally, the Crazy Target lady was my favorite.

So, where will you be spending your Black Friday? I will be at the shop and we wanted to let you know of a couple of specials that we have going on. Pictured above you see the NKOTB Tour Jacket. Nouveau Wine Festival in Galena

Christmas shopping is well underway. People have been strolling through the streets looking for something special for everyone on their list.

It's interesting to see the excitement in one's face when they purchase something from my vintage store. Due to the time of the year I usually ask if it's for themselves or a gift. Then the story begins. Some items are to complete or add to a collection one has. Some of the items are from their childhood. And then there are those one-of-a-kind finds that some people can't believe they came across.

Galena has a lot to offer to those who want to get away for the day or weekend. Everything from B&B's, live music, fine dining, and shopping.

If your planning a visit today you may of already heard that it's Nouveau Wine Festival Weekend. The horse-drawn wagon carried those participants down Main Street yesterday for the parade. Local restaurants embrace the celebration, offering luncheons and wine tastings.

Hi, My name is Flo. Don't you just love my 1920's cloche hat? I loved it too. Unfortunately, it seems to be missing. Someone came and took it right off my head but forgot to pay for it. It was the nicest hat that I owned. I sure hope they return it to me. I promise I won't hold a grudge.

The flood gates are open! We opened back up today after the rain. A few restaurants are still closed for clean-up, but there is plenty of shopping to be done downtown Galena, IL. Wow what a ride it's been !!!

Can't believe March 1st is almost here. Last year this time I was busy setting up my shop on Main St. Moving in was a lot of work but I had a lot of help from family and friends. April 1st was my opening date and I am trying to plan something special for my first year anniversary. Any ideas out there?

I have met a lot of nice people there and a lot of them have come back over and over again. I can't say THANK YOU enough !!! My vintage clothing and accessories have been a big hit. Altered art people have found some really neat things there and lots of photographers have come in for props. Collectors have found that special item to add to their collection, some have been looking for years for a certain item. I even keep a "want book" for people to add to. And there is a lady in town who loves my primitives. If you are looking for 50's retro kitchen, I have it. The retro and clothing have been my most popular items.

Today a young college man came in and purchased a little child's tea set to give to a teacher. He says they always have tea together. I thought " what a nice thing to do".

It never fails to surprise me when someone finds something special for someone else.

If you ever come in on a Friday you met my daughter, Jennifer. She is my mentor when it comes to marketing and keeping me up to date on the latest. She makes the neatest one-of-a-kind greeting cards and sells them at the shop. She is a dog lover and uses her 3 "boys" for models on the cards among other things she see here and there. She does a great job with the cards. Make sure you check them out when you come in. She also loves to recycle things and has a line of jewelry there. Just recently she introduced her Pin-up girls necklaces. Cute!!!!

I have so many plans for the shop and items to bring in. Today I put some children's games from the 40's and 50's. The Candy Land game is the exact one I had as a child. Tempted to just frame the game board, it is soooooooooo cute!!! If you are a camera buff, you will find some things from the 40's.

Ok all you New Kids on the Block fans, look at this young man modeling the NKOTB coat for me! Looks great huh? Not too many of these around and in mint condition. It was one of my daughters must-haves but she never wore it. Just worshipped it! Now she is ready to part with it and has put it up for sale in my shop. If you are interested don't wait too long, it may not last.

Ok, I found this 1950's navy dress just recently. It has a full circle skirt and is embellished with white daisies with rhinestones in the centers of the daisys. It is drop dead gorgeous ! Don't you agree? Dressing and undressing her is not a simple chore. Her arms have to come off in order to get the dress on, she doesn't bend like we humans do. But I love her never- the- less!!!! She is doing her job very well, I may have to give her a raise. Stop by and see her sometime, she may even let you take your picture with her!!!1

Extreme Makeover

The last 2 days have been busy busy busy. We have done a makeover in the shop. Moved lots of things around to give it a new look. New things added and more to come this weekend. I hope the new design will give customers an easier way to look around without just going in one big circle. When you are limited on space one has to become creative, right? With some suggestions from my facebook followers I have done a new window display for Valentines Day. Hope you like it. Sorry for the glare from the flash, it was late at night when we finished.

I always thought it would be neat to do window displays back in the 50's and 60's then I realized that I really AM because I am using the same items from that era to do my displays. Cool huh!

If you have ever been in the shop you know I love the 50's. It is a great place to shop for items from that era especially kitchen items and vintage clothing. Although I have many more items besides those. You will just have to drop in sometime when you're in Galena. Have a great day. Shirley

Now that Christmas is gone, I thought it was time to pack away all of the Christmas decor and items for sale. My windows are now vintage sewing and winter clothing. I have some really nice old store stock boots still in the boxes in the shop. You can see them in the window as you walk by. Great for this time of the year. Lots of winter coats and clothing, too.

My new open days for the winter are Fri. thru Mon. You can alway email me if you are planning to be in town Tues. thru Thurs. and if I am available I may be able to open for you. Depends on my work schedule (nursing job).

Great vintage dresses

These ladies found some great dresses at the shop, some for Christmas gifts, some just for fun! Katarina found this beautiful long blue silk dress(Her step Dad bought it for her for Christmas!) Very sweet of him, huh? She looks great in it. The lady in pink with the hat bought this for dancing. Can't you just see her twirl in this? The young lady in the pink and gold dress is wearing this to the opera. The dress looked so nice on her, the picture does NOT show just how beautiful it is on her. She also bought a cute yellow formal that she is wearing to her prom in January. Ladies, if you are seeing this post, email me a picture the nite you wear these !!!! You can find more of these pretty dresses and more at the shop.

I finally finished by window displays for the holiday season. The village took me 4 1/2 hours to set up. This is my personal collection of an old Christmas village. I thought I would enjoy it in my window as much as in my house this year and others could also enjoy seeing it. The other window is full of toys that you might have seen in the olden days. These are all for sale, also the Santa chair which came from the old Rosheck Dept. Store years ago. Stop in to see all the other Christmas items I have for sale. Who says you have to be human to like antiques? My friend Barb brought in her smallest of three dogs to the shop the other day. Her name is Gaea and she was the most well behaved dog and very LARGE I might say! The customers enjoyed seeing her also. She even posed for this picture along with her master. I sure hope these girls like their purchases. The blue 50's formal is going to be worn at her daughter's wedding. How cool is that!!! Girlfriend's Getaway is this weekend in Galena, Il. Lots of things to do. I am giving away a free tote bag with a $50.00 purchase this weekend only. These are made of recycled water bottles and come in large or small, many cute designs. I have just added new designs actually. The Story of my sign

I had the shop opened without any sign for a month or so, not know exactly what I was going to do. Then I remembered a friend of mine that did wonderful creations revamping old pieces of furniture, etc. She also does some one-of-a-kind cards by painting and adding her own special touches. I said to myself " I wonder if I could get my friend Glee to paint a sign for me?". So one day I packed up an old sign that I had purchased earlier and stopped at her house to see what she said. She gladly accepted my offer. I showed her my design that I had picked out and she did it all by hand for me. If you look close enough among the forget-me-nots you will see her signature. I picked the forget-me-nots because they are so pretty and delicate and recently my mom passed away so everytime I see the sign I think of her. She was able to come and see my shop before she died. I was thankful for that.

The artist name is Glee Bilderback from Galena, Illinois. THANK YOU GLEE!!!!
